Adult Counselling Program

Envision Counselling and Support Centre offers counselling services to people affected by abuse. This may include victims of sexual assault, spousal assault (domestic violence), dating violence, older person abuse, family violence, children exposed to violence and adults who were abused as children (adult survivors). It may also include people who are in a supportive role for the victim, such as parents, partners, relatives and friends, as they are affected by the abuse as well and sometimes only need a few counselling sessions to gain tools in helping their loved one.

Envision believes that counselling is ‘client directed’, which means that the counselling process is based on what clients feel they need. You do not have to be physically abused to seek services, as 80% of our clients come in for counselling as a result of other forms of abuse (i.e., emotional or verbal abuse).

A counsellor in simple terms is someone who you can talk to confidentially, will allow you to express yourself honestly, will advocate on your behalf and who is non-judgmental. Counsellors can help you explore your options as well as support your decisions.  Counsellors also give support in the areas of safety, empowerment, self esteem, assertiveness, healthy expressions of feelings, coping strategies, problem solving, and conflict resolution.

Other things counselling can offer:

Envision has two counsellors in each office to serve clients needs.
Once you decide to contact Envision, the counselling process begins with an initial intake interview. In the first session the counsellor will ask about the issues and discuss possible options.

The number of sessions clients attend for counselling varies widely. It depends on the nature of the problem, the clients' reception to change, type of therapy, and many other variables. Envision Counselling and Support Centre places no restriction on number, or frequency of counselling sessions. Most clients come in for counselling once a week initially and move to every two weeks after six months.

There are no fees for our counselling services, as we are a community-based organization funded by the Ministries of Justice, United Way and private donations.

We are very proud to report that there is currently NO WAITLIST at Envision Counselling and Support Centre.
