Family Support Program
Family Support Programs are administered by community-based-organizations such as Envision Counselling and Support Centre. Each program has a Coordinator who is responsible for the administration and staffing of the program. In-Home Workers are employees of Envision Counselling and Support Centre, not the Ministry of Social Services (MSS).
When a Social Worker from MSS determines that an In-Home Support Worker is the best intervention for a family, a request for services is made by MSS to Envision’s In-Home Support Program Coordinator, who then assigns an In-Home Worker to work with the family.
The Family Support Program supports the healthy development of families and children so they may achieve their full potential. The Family Support Program is a service providing intensive in-home support to children and families who are receiving family and youth services. The emphasis is on maintaining the family unit by providing a variety of supportive services which prevent the children’s admission to care. Services are intended to be time-limited and outcome orientated.
The emphasis is for In-Home Workers to first develop a relationship of trust with the family and then to act as mentor and consultant. The In-Home Worker encourages the parent to make healthy changes which are positive for themselves and their families. Contracts are to be reviewed every three months and a new contract with the family may be made.
