Women's Support Group
Healthy Relationship Group

Purpose:
This support group will encourage group members to educate themselves on the effects violence has had on themselves and others around them. The group process will allow members to increase self-worth and self-esteem by relating to others who have been or are in similar situations.
Objectives:
1. To facilitate the enhancement of self-worth, self-esteem and self-confidence through the support of others.
2. To assist members in gaining insight and understanding of the effects violence has had and/or continues to have on their lives.
3. To provide a safe environment where group members can develop sufficient trust in order to allow for feedback and ongoing support during self-exploration.
4. To assist women in exploring and recognizing their personal strengths.
5. To assist women in developing self-confidence and monitoring their own progress.
Membership:
1. The group is open to all women 18 years of age and over, who are presently in or have recently been involved in an abusive relationship.
2. The group is a closed group that will meet for 2 to 2.5 hours, once a week, for 8-10 consecutive weeks.
3. Enrollment will be limited to 12 members.
Selection Criteria for Members:
1. Members who verbally express motivation to join this group.
2. A willingness by the member to participate in written and verbal exercises.
3. Members who have recognized a need to examine how violence has affected themselves and those around them.
4. Members who have participated in a pre-screening group interview.
5. Members who have had some form of individual or group therapy prior to admission to this group.
6. Members who are not attending another group provided by Envision Counselling and Support Centre Inc.
7. Members who are not suicidal, homicidal or psychotic.
8. Members who are not from the same family.
9. Membership is on a voluntary basis.
Discharge Criteria:
1. Attendance is consistently less than what was agreed to.
2. A member has missed more than one group without notifying the group and/or facilitators.
3. A member has missed more than two consecutive meetings.
4. Repeated displays of behavior inappropriate for the group process.
